CARSON -- Taking a chance on a too-high 0-2 pitch in the final frame against the Hawks of San Diego Christian, Abel Medina gave the Cal State Dominguez Hills baseball team a daily sweep with a walk-off homer in a thrilling 7-5 win after belting the game-winner in game one, a 2RBI double that gave the Toros a 8-6 decision.

The homer is Medina's sixth on the season, the current team high.  The shot also extended the Toros current win streak to eight straight, also a season high and tied with last year's winning run.

In game one, the Toros took an early lead in only the first frame as Kyle Pond belted a 2RBI double to bring in the first runs for the Toros, followed by a Kevin Pillar RBI-single that extended Pillar's hit streak to 34 games.

After adding one more in the first, the Toros finished their scoring for the day's opener in the fourth with a Carlos Leyva single, Medina's double and a final Pond single bring in the last runs for the Toros.

The Hawks came alive in the end of the game with two two-run frames, including a solo homer from Max Ouellette, not enough before the Toros took the decision 8-6.

In the nightcap, and playing catchup for the first time in the three game series, the Toros faced a 2-4 deficit going into the fourth, blanked as Barrett Ceverha belted his second homer of a season, a 3RBi shot over the left that put CSUDH up 5-4.

After the Hawks grabbed the tying run on a Gabriel Item triple in the fifth the stage was set for Medina's walk-off blast, bringing both himself and Leyva home safely in a 7-5 decision.

Game one starter Shane Youngdale went a full seven frames, scattering 11 hits and fanning one batter en route to picking up the win while closer Matt Phillips grabbed his ninth save after one full frame of duty highlighted by two strikeouts.

In game two, starter David Fair went 4.2 innings, striking out one before handing over the reins to Michael Cruz who fanned four batters in 2.1 innings to pick up the win.

Toro fans got a good show in game two, Leyva belted his first homer in the first frame for CSUDH's first run of the game while Pillar started his chances at the dish off with a double, extending his hit-streak to 35 games.

Now 27-10 on the season (17-7 CCAA), the Toros will take their eight game win-streak on the road as they face the Otters of Cal State Monterey Bay next week for a four-game series starting on Friday, April 9 at 3:00pm.
