Toros Split in a Day of Two Blowouts at UC San Diego

Game 1  |  Game 2

LA JOLLA -- After suffering a 7-0 blanking in the opener, the Cal State Dominguez Hills softball team came out for the nightcap a completely different team with Emiley McEwen driving a single through the right to bring in the game-winning run in a 9-1 win over host UC San Diego.

In game one the Toros had nearly no say, belting only two hits, one each from Katie Garcia and Caitlin McGrath before falling in a 7-0 loss.

Game two saw a reversal of fortunes for both teams as the Toros grabbed an early run on the very first pitch of the game with Garcia belting a solo shot over right-center.

Adding two more in the third and one in the fifth, the Toros invoked the mercy rule, grabbing five in the sixth to end the game at 9-1.

Highlighting action in the final frame, McEwen added more runs for the Toros, slapping a 2RBI single while Daisy Beltran started the powerhouse rally with a single that eventually saw her cross the plate.

Picking up the win, Stephanie Jimenez threw a complete-game win, scattering six hits and allowing one run with three strikeouts.

The game one loss went to Lauren Harper, who fanned four batters while giving up three earned runs of the seven total.

Now 20-16 on the season and 12-10 in the CCAA, the Toros will conclude action against the Tritons with a twinbill set for tomorrow on the campus of UCSD, with first pitch set for 12 noon in La Jolla.
