Chanel Parker Readies For Third All-American Nod at NCAA Indoor Championships

INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. -- Just as in 2009, Chanel Parker readies herself for competition in the 2010 NCAA Division II Indoor Track & Field Championships as the lone Toro to make the final cut in the post-season show. A two-time All-American, Parker will represent Cal State Dominguez Hills in the 60-meter hurdles yet again.

"I feel good representing the school," Parker says in her final week of practice before the meet. "I would rather have gone with other Toros this time but we have a much better team than last year so I am sure in outdoor we will have more going."

Going into the championships as the No. 6 seed, Parker carries a seed time of 8.54, carding the time at Fresno State's Run for the Dream Invitational on February 5th.

The seed time is 0.04-seconds over Parker's finish of 8.50 in the 2009 championships which placed her fifth in the event for her first All-American award. Her time in the championships last year also placed her as the No. 1 Toro runner in the event in the CSUDH program.

Top seed going into the event belongs to defending champion Shermaine Williams of Jonhnson C. Smith University at 8.10-seconds.

"My expectations are to make it farther than last time and to do my best," Parker says about what she wants at the championships.

"It is a continuous goal and something I always work towards to be the best but I am just going to go and do my best and keep training to get better."

The 2010 NCAA Indoor Championships will begin on Friday, March 12 on the campus of Adams State College in Albuquerque, New Mexico. Parker will race in the preliminaries on 5:20pm PST on that day.
