Mixon's Record Night Gives Toros 84-69 Win Over Cal State East Bay

HAYWARD -- The Cal State Dominguez Hills women's basketball team registered a record night over the Pioneers of Cal State East Bay as Neka Mixon grabbed 33 points and 12 field goals, good for respective second and third on the Toros' all-time single-game record lists.

Mixon is now tied with Tameka Blue as the second all-time single-game point leader, a mark Blue set on February 28, 2003, in a 72-56 win over Cal State Stanislaus.  Mixon's 12 made field goals also helped her best a sextet of Toros all with 11 in a game.

Thirteen boards also landed Mixon her fourth double-double of the season, the third time in her career she has grabbed the personal best rebound number.

Not the only scorer, Mixon got more than enough help from Brandie McCann who registered 17 while MacKenzie Mathias came in with 13.

The Toros held the lead the entire 40 minutes of play, not once allowing even a tie.  The hosts worked to keep the action close in the first before a Mixon jumper gave CSUDH their first double-digit lead of the game halfway through the first at 24-13.

An Andrea Rodriguez trey cut down the visitor's lead in the final seconds leading into the break, giving CSUDH only a 42-38 lead.

Despite regaining a healthy margin on a McCann jumper, the Toros felt a new fire from the Pioneers in the second, having to fight off a slim seven point lead with 4:07 left.

CSUDH bounced back in the final two of play, using five points from McCann, four from Mathias and two from Mixon to seal the deal at 84-69.

The Toros also out-rebounded their hosts, boosted by Barbara Houston with six, second behind Mixon's 13.

Also putting on the pressure with a team 36.5% shooting, Claudia Nelson and Lauren Lucchesi gave the Pioneers 15 points apiece while Rodriguez came in with 14.

The win gives CSUDH an 8-13 overall record (7-9 CCAA) as they hit the midway point of a road streak.  The squad will next see action as they travel to Seaside to take on the Otters of Cal State Monterey Bay on February 12th at 5:30pm.
