Seniors Sent Out With 74-69 Win Over CS Stanislaus in Regular Season Finale

Toros to Host No. 5 Chico State on March 2, in CCAA 1st round match-up

Box Score
CARSON -- Playing out the regular season as a formality after securing the No. 4 seed and a first round home game, Cal State Dominguez Hills turned up the intensity after falling behind by five in the first half, and the result was a 74-69 win over visiting Cal State Stanislaus on "Senior Night," also a "Think Pink" event to help raise awareness for breast cancer.  Seniors Tim McGrath and Jamel Ward were honored in a pre-game ceremony.

Against a Warrior team playing for pride, CSUS came out ready to play after taking a 16-11 lead after the first eight minutes of play.  CSUDH, however, fueled by McGrath's 10 points, made its own run to take a 22-18 lead on one of his three triples on the night, this one at the 7:16 mark.

The Warriors, however, played up to their namesake over the final minutes of the half, outscoring the Toros 18-9 to take a 36-31 lead entering the break.

That was the extent of CSUS' advantage as the Toros regained the lead on a Tim McLaurin 3-pointer five minutes into the half, increasing the lead to 7 on a McGrath dunk, and to 10 on a 3-pointer, the first double-figure advantage of the night.

CSUDH's lead increased to 13 on a Ward free throw, before CSUS made one final run over the final five minutes of play, whittling it down to 3 on a Jordan Stokes triple before a Marcquintice Davis jumper and two final free throws sealed the win for the Toros.

Amir Aguilar enjoyed his finest game in Cardinal and Gold thus far, notching a double-double of 13 boards and 10 points, while McGrath's 17, Michael Cox's 13 and McLaurin and Davis' 11 rounded out the double-figure Toro scorers.

Stokes and Chad Johnson led CSUS with 17 points apiece, nearly pulling off the upset thanks to CSUDH's disappointing 49.2% success rate from the charity stripe.

The Toros, now 16-11, 16-6 CCAA, will look to keep their winning ways against Chico State in the first round of the CCAA Tournament, needing to win the tournament to assure itself a berth in the NCAA postseason.  CSUDH swept the season series against the Wildcats, taking a 55-40 win in Chico on January 23, and a 76-55 victory last night in the next-to-last league game of the regular season.

First tip for the first round match-up is set for 7:00 pm on Tuesday, March 2, in the Torodome on the "Dave Yanai Court"
