Toros Open CCAA Action With 8-2 Takedown of San Francisco State

CARSON -- The Cal State Dominguez Hills baseball team used solid hitting and exceptional defense to take down the Gators of San Francisco State in an 8-2 win to open CCAA play on Toro Field.  Going 3-of-5 with three RBIs, Abel Medina led the Toro offensive threat.

After grabbing a 3-0 lead in the first off Medina and Kevin Pillar doubles, the hosts never looked back before taking the win.

The Gators notched two on the board, one apiece in both the fourth and fifth frames off a Nick Bowerman double and Ryan Williams sacrifice fly, their only say in the game.

Outhit by a margin of 12-10, the Toros grabbed four more hits in the eighth inning, with a Dean Benavidez single and a final single from Medina bringing in three more on the board for CSUDH.

Overall CSUDH blasted four doubles with two coming from Pillar.

Both Pillar and Medina led their team to the winning with each bring in three runners.

Starting on the mound, Kody Kurowski finished his fourth appearance of the season, finally going on record in the win.  Kurowski fanned three batters and walked one in five innings of action.

The loss goes to Spencer Kreisberg, in six innings he struck out a whopping six and walked two while giving up nine hits.

The final Toro pitcher on the day, Matt Phillips picked up a save after coming into action in the eighth, with the bases juiced and the winning run up to bat Phillips shut down the Gators with a strike out.

The win boosts the Toros to a 5-3 overall mark while opening them 1-0 in the CCAA.  The Toros will continue the series tomorrow with a double-header slated to start at 11:00am weather-permitting.
