CARSON -- One night after residing on "Cloud 9" with a win over the defending NCAA National Champion and top-ranked Cal Poly Pomona, the 15th-ranked Toros were brought back down to Earth by nemesis Cal State San Bernardino in a 59-49 loss, dealing CSUDH its first loss of the season.  Senior Tim McLaurin celebrated his birthday with a team-high 16 points in the loss.

Like many of their contests this year, CSUDH jumped out to a 9-0 lead in the early going, stretching it to 15-6 behind seven points from Robert Willhite and six by McLaurin in the half.

The Coyotes, however, who trailed 24-15 with 3:29 left in the first half, out-scored the hosts 13-1 over that final 3:29, capped by a pair of threes by Aaron Hill and Corey Caston, with Caston's prayer from 40 feet banking it in as the horn expired to give CSUSB a 28-25 edge entering the half.

Giving the visitors momentum with the buzzer-beater after falling at Cal State L.A. last night, CSUSB stretched its lead to 17 at 44-27 at the 8:08 mark, a span of 11:52 in which the Toros missed 18 shots and committed nine turnovers.

CSUDH finally regained its offensive stroke, eventually cutting its deficit to 37-46 on a McLaurin bucket with 4:34 left in regulation, but the Yotes kept the Toros at arm's length by converting 6-of-9 free throws own the stretch to seal the win.

The Toros, who dropped to 6-1, 2-1 CCAA, seemed slow to nearly every loose ball compared to last night's effort that saw CSUDH storm back from a 17-point second half deficit, with CSUSB's bench out-scoring the Toros' reserves 26-15, including a decisive 16-7 edge in the first half.

Theron Laudermill led all scorers with 17 points on 5-of-6 shooting from the field, while Caston chipped in 16 points in the Coyote win, moving them to 2-2, 1-1 CCAA.

The Toros have two weeks off before resuming CCAA play at cross-town rival Cal State L.A. on Saturday, December 18, which upset top-ranked Cal Poly Pomona in an earlier contest.
