Denise DeVine Named CCAA 2010 Volleyball Newcomer of the Year

WALNUT CREEK -- After a breakout year as a red-shirt freshman, the CCAA volleyball coaches saw fit to honor the Toros, bestowing Denise DeVine with Newcomer of the Year honors, the first such award in the history of the Cal State Dominguez Hills volleyball program.

Aside from the prestigious honor, DeVine was also named a 2nd-Team All-CCAA selection, the first All-CCAA placement for the Toros since 2004 and the 13th all-conference award for the program overall.

As the premier recruit of former head coach Scott Davenport, DeVine red-shirted her first year as a Toro before breaking out in 2010, leading her team in kills (328) and points (352.5) while coming in second in digs (262) and attacking (.179).

In arguably one the toughest NCAA Division II conference in the nation DeVine finished at the No. six position in kills and seven in points while also breaking out onto the national scene with a No. 28 ranking in kills/g (3.81) and points/g (4.11) on October 24th.

DeVine also tallied four different top-five CSUDH game records, led by her 26 kills on September 10.

Losing only two seniors in 2010, the Toros will return to wealth of experienced and talented underclassmen in 2011, led by sophomore DeVine.
