Toros Lone Set Win Falls Short as 'Jacks Grabs 3-1 Decision

ARCATA -- Despite holding their opponent to the lowest hitting percentage of the past four matches, the Cal State Dominguez Hills volleyball team fell short in a 1-3 loss on the road the Lumberjacks of Humboldt State.  With a mark in all four deciding categories, Denise DeVine landed six kills, two aces, six digs and a block on the night.

The first two sets saw the hosts take the quick route to a win, as HSU grabbed 25-17 and 25-16 decisions early in the night.

Despite more of the same in the third, at a deficit of 3-7 a Cassidy Mangum dish to Elizabeth Krieger for the kill rallied the bench as the Toros held the 'Jacks quiet for five straight points.

Giving HSU the lead again late in the set proved nothing for the Toros as a late-game eight point rush with two additional kills from Krieger gave CSUDH their lone win on the night at 25-22.

The 'Jacks eventually felled the Toros in the fourth on a 25-10 final, taking the night at 3-1.

Overall, Krieger led all Toros with eight kills and nine assists, while defensively Hilary Hougardy grabbed 14 digs.

At the net Abbey Prusa sent three back, for the 11th straight match with a block.  Dishing duties were split between Mangum with 11 and Olivia White with 12.

The loss drops the Toros to a 3-24 overall mark and 2-19 in the CCAA with only two games remaining in the 2010 season.  CSUDH will travel to Dominican University tomorrow for a non-conference match-up at 7:00pm.
