Davis Notches 1-0 Shutout at CS Stanislaus in First Career Start

Box Score
TURLOCK -- Forced into his first-career collegiate start after his All-Region keeper teammate was issued a red card in Friday's contest, junior keeper Eric Davis proved he was more than up to the challenge as he blanked host CS Stanislaus 1-0 for his first-career shutout to lift the Toros to 6-2-2, 5-2-1 CCAA, with Miguel Vargas taking care of the game's lone score.

The Toro defense provided ample support for Davis, limiting the hosts to just five shots in the first half, while taking eight of their own.

The scoreless draw lasted until the 42nd minute when Vargas took a cross on the left side of the pitch from Jordan Hatanaka and beat Warrior keeper Javier Rosales near post for a 1-0 lead.

Both offenses kicked it up a notch after the break as they combined for 19 shots, but bot keepers stayed on top of their game in shutting down the opposing strikers.

Davis finished with 5 saves in his first start, while Rosales ended with 6 for the Warriors, who split this weekend after pounding former No. 1 in the nation Cal State L.A. two days ago.

The Toros return home next weekend hosting UC San Diego to kick off the second half of league play, with first kick set for 4:30 pm.
