CARSON -- Senior Alex Munoz took CSUDH's Homecoming theme to heart, getting "medieval" on visiting Cal Poly Pomona with two goals to lead the Toros to a berth in the upcoming CCAA Championship Tournament in a 5-0 drubbing.

On a festive night in which CSUDH celebrated its Homecoming theme of "Let's Get Medieval; Throw Down the Gauntlet," the Toros celebrated in their own way after taking a 1-0 lead on Munoz's free-kick strike from 25 yards out that bent up and away from CPP keeper Tony Iniguez at 19:40.

CSUDH's lead doubled in the 54th minute after Munoz took a deflection and squired his shot past Iniguez, with assists going to Andre Turoldo and Scott Locken.

The game took a physical turn in the 74th minute as an exchange of words led to a cheap shot by Bronco Luis Gonzalez, resulting in a yellow card at 74:50.

That caution seemed to inspire the Toros as they capitalized five seconds later after Locken sent his pass into the CPP goalmouth, where a Jordan Rover header made it 3-0.

CSUDH kept its foot on the offensive pedal as Billy Gutierrez sent in a left-footed pass towards the CPP goal in the 78th minute, finding Miguel Vasquez who flicked his header in for a 4-0 lead.

Stephane Mongu capped the scoring 10 minutes later as he collected a loose ball after Iniguez was drawn out of his box, and drilled his shot to the upper far post "V" for the final tally.

The CSUDH defense kept CPP from attempting a shot on goal, while Iniguez was credited for five saves in the loss for the Broncos, who fell to 9-7-1, 7-7-1 CCAA.

With the win, the Toros join Chico State, CS San Bernardino and Sonoma State in the four-team tournament, set to begin on Friday, November 5, in Turlock.

The Toros, who moved to 12-4-2, 9-4-2 CCAA, will conclude their 2010 regular season on "Senior Day" Sunday looking for a bit of redemption against the Coyotes, which handed them their worst loss of the year in a 4-0 blowout on September 24.
