Toros Strike Cardinal & Gold, Down Chapman in Five

CARSON -- Behind stellar performances by Elaine Hicks (pictured) and Abbey Prusa, Cal State Dominguez Hills downed Chapman University in five sets. Hicks recorded her second straight double-double with 20 kills and 19 digs while also recording a season- high hitting percentage of .395.

The Toros dominated the first set from the start behind Hicks' eight kills and three team blocks. However, the second set was a different story as the resilient Panthers showed they were here to play.

In the first two, each team hit over .289 and committed only seven attack errors combined while tying the score eight times. Chapman pulled away using its defense to set up kills for the game two win.

The third and fourth sets were split with neither side being able to find a rhythm.

When it came down to the fifth and final set, the Toros faced a tough task as the Panthers were 4-0 in 5-set matches this season. Sparked by Olivia White and her nine assists, CSUDH bore through Chapman with precise attacks, overcoming their four service errors.

Setting an individual high of six blocks in the match were three Toros in Ashley Clark, Prusa and Elayne Greer.

White also led in setting the table with 40 assists on the night while Hicks led her team in defense with her 19 digs.

Now 3-20 overall, the Toros will resume CCAA play where they have a 2-13 mark as they host the Otters of Cal State Monterey Bay this Friday at 5:00pm.
