Streaks Come to End in No. 13 Toros' 3-1 Loss at Cal State L.A.

Box Score
LOS ANGELES -- Playing nothing like a team that had not won a game in its last three contests, host Cal State L.A. put a dramatic halt to two Cal State Dominguez Hills men's soccer streaks in a 3-1 win pitting cross-town rivals against the other, dropping the 13th-ranked Toros to 10-3-2, 8-3-2 CCAA.

Senior Alex Munoz notched the lone score for CSUDH in the loss, which saw both a five-game shutout and three-game winning streak end.

The hosts got on the board first after Marvin Sandoval took a through ball and beat CSUDH keeper Markus Dickerson after the pass drew him from his box.

That lead didn't last long, however, as Munoz equalized just five minutes later, duplicating Sunday's heroics by directing his direct kick to the back of the goal to tie the game at 1-1 in the 20th minute, where it looked to be heading entering the half before a long throw-in by the Golden Eagles resulted in a score after a Julian Ringhof header went off Dickerson's fingertips and into the net for a 2-1 lead.

The scoring concluded early in the second half as Gonzalo Pulgar redirected a feed deep in the Toro zone to beat Dickerson for the game's final goal.

The two teams combined for 38 fouls and 5 cards, with each team taking 16 shots on the night.

Dickerson finished with 4 saves while counterpart Thaddeus Caraway netted 9 in CSULA's win.

The two teams meet again on Saturday, October 23, in Carson with the four spots for the upcoming CCAA tournament still up for grabs.
