Close But Not Enough As Tritons Edge out Toros in 3-0 Loss

LA JOLLA -- Playing one of their most evenly matched and aggressive contests of the season, the Cal State Dominguez Hills volleyball team was on par with the Tritons of UC San Diego, keeping the action close before the hosts took a win at 3-0.  Notching another double-double, Denise DeVine landed 11 kills and 16 digs in the loss.

Grabbing positive attacking in all three sets, the Toros were one kill shy of their hosts (42-43) while seven more errors eventually led to the loss.

Starting hot right away, the service of Olivia White put the Toros on a four-point rush to give them a 5-1 lead in set one.

Able to hold the lead at 18-17 and seeing a chance at a set win with the game knotted at 24-all, UCSD was able to grab a quick two and their first win at 26-24.

That was the strongest showing the Toros would have all night as the Tritons took early leads in the final sets, not giving up either before back-to-back 25-20 wins.

DeVine led all Toros with 11 kills and her sixth double-double of the season.

Defensively, CSUDH came in five digs shy of UCSD (63-68) with Hilary Hougardy leading the way.

White saw the most action in the setter position for the first time this season, dishing 39 assists with one service ace.

Only one Triton landed double-digit kills as Katie Condon led with 12.

Still searching for their second win and standing with a 1-12 overall record (1-7 CCAA), the Toros will play travel partner Cal State L.A. this upcoming Wednesday at 7:00pm in Los Angeles.
