Toros Steamroll Seawolves in Second to Nab 68-59 Win

CARSON, Calif. -- A triple threat, Neka Mixon grabbed her fourth double-double of the season with 22 points and 13 boards, also tallying four steals, to lead the Cal State Dominguez Hills women's basketball team to a 68-59 decision over the visiting Seawolves of Sonoma State.

What started as a slow night eventually boiled over into a back-and-forth contest in the first half with six total lead changes.

The Toros held the honor of last lead in the first following two Kala Amico freebies, sending them into the break with a 29-28 lead.

A roller coaster second half immediately gave way to a consistent Toro lead, held for all 20-minutes of the second.

CSUDH grabbed their biggest lead of the second, and night, at the 10:01 mark as a MacKenzie Mathias dish to Mixon in the paint gave the Toros a 49-34 advantage.

The Seawolves battled hard from that point, chipping their deficit down to as little as seven on two occasions, both from the line as Kristin Montanari and Jaclyn Bisordi proved deadly in their free throws.

Fouls ran rampant in the final two minutes with both teams committing five before the night would be decided for the Toros, 68-59. In the final two minutes, 15 of the 17 overall points were tallied form the line.

Aside from her 22 points, 13 boards and four steals, Mixon also threw up one block and dished two assists, adding to her weekend totals.

Two other Toros, McCann and Gantt, tallied a respective 16 and 14 points to round out the top-three Toro shooters.

SSU was led by a duo scoring 13 points apiece in Taylor Vigil and Nadia Williams.

The game-deciding factor came from the floor, SSU shot 26.7% in 60 attempts, far worse than CSUDH's 40.4% in 52 tries.

Now with a 7-12 overall mark (6-8 CCAA), the Toros will next see action as they travel to UC San Diego on February 4th to play the nationally ranked Tritons.  Tip-off is set at 5:30pm.
