CARSON, Calif. -- Visiting Humboldt State broke through Cal State Dominguez Hills' stifling defense from behind the arc with five more treys than the hosts, and the result was a 69-65 win that ended two streaks for the streaking Toros.  Junior Marcquintice Davis enjoyed a breakout game with 20 points and 5 assists in the loss.

Winners of four-consecutive coming into tonight's match-up, the 'Jacks opened the game on a 13-4 run, only to have the Toros respond with an 11-0 run to take a 15-13 lead on Tim McGrath free throw, a see-saw battle that proved to be a harbinger of things to come.

After a Davis jumper regained the lead for the Toros at 23-21, a pair of Zac Tiedeman triples gave the visitors a 4-point edge, settling for a 36-34 advantage entering the break on the fifth of Tiedeman's treys in the period, this one coming from 40 feet away as the buzzer sounded.

The Toros tied the game twice in the first 1:33 of the second half, before HSU went on a 12-5 run to take a comfortable 50-43 lead with 12:19 left in regulation.  But two Davis free throws spurred a comeback that saw the Toros whittle their deficit to just one at 60-59 on a Tim McLaurin 3-pointer, only to be rebuffed by a 4-0 spurt by the 'Jacks to again take control of the contest.

Three-consecutive Toro foul shots brought CSUDH to within two, but after the squads exchanged triples, a pair of Tiedeman freebies sealed the deal for HSU in its 69-65 win, improving the Lumberjacks to 13-5, 10-3 CCAA.

Tiedeman led all scorers with 22 points on 6-of-10 shooting from the field, with all six makes coming from behind the arc.  Brian Morris added 13, including a couple of acrobatic put-backs, with Kevin Atkins contributing 10 in the win.

In addition to Davis' 20 points, a career high in his first year as a Toro, McLaurin added 17 points.  The two teams were virtually deadlocked in every category, but the one distinct advantage HSU enjoyed -- success behind the arc -- proved to be CSUDH's downfall.

The Toros, who saw their three-game win streak and three-consecutive game streak of holding opponents under 50 points both come to an end, fell to 8-10, 8-5 CCAA, and will continue their short homestand tomorrow night as Sonoma State visits Carson for a 7:30 pm first tip.
