'Mixon and Houston Show' Push Toros to Late Night 71-68 Win Over Warriors

TURLOCK, CA -- Almost knowing that one person's late night stint was coming to an end, both Neka Mixon and Barbara Houston gave their own star-studded 'Late Night' performance, tallying respective 29 and 18 points to lead the Toros to a 71-68 win over the Cal State Stanislaus Warriors.

After a frustrating first half, the Toros gave up their second half lead only once, eventually setting the stage for a shot at the win in the final minute of play.

With 25 seconds left in regulation and a tied ballgame at 68-68, Mixon drove in the ball to give CSUDH the last lead they would need.  Following a Warrior turnover and a Kala Amico steal, Brandie McCann was given the final say, using a CSUS foul to drop of one two freebies with 12 seconds left and end the night on a 71-68 mark.

The host Warriors quickly built up their lead in the first, enjoying a double-digit edge in following a Katie Busi layup.

One-and-a-half minutes later, the Warriors increased their mark, doubling the Toros' points in the game at 24-12, courtesy of Andreanna Marshall.

The Toros battled hard after that point, cutting their deficit to as low as two points at 30-28 following a Mixon lay-up. The final push gave them the energy to go into the break down by only three at 35-32.

The Warriors held the lead through the majority of the second, dropping it as Houston sank two free throws with 7:21 left to give the Toros a 56-55 lead.

Overall, it was the pressing Toro offense that won the game as CSUDH attempted 60 shots and made 29, while CSUS managed only 41 attempts off the floor, making a better percentage with 21 makes.

With a dominating 29 points, Mixon tallied a career best for points in a game, overshadowing her mark of 25, set last year at Humboldt State.  The 29 points is also a team high this season.  With 12 boards Mixon also added her third double-double of the season.

Also surpassing her personal ppg mark, Houston's 18, with many coming at critical moments, helped to land the Toro win. With 10 boards Houston added the second double-double of her three year career in the Cardinal & Gold.

The Warriors were led by both Busi and Alishea Kelly, both with 17 points and eight and five boards, respectively.

The moves the Toros to a 5-10 record (4-6 CCAA).  CSUDH will end its current road trip tomorrow as they travel to Chico State to take on the Wildcats with tip-off set at 5:30pm.
