Game Two Rally Not Enough as Toros Drop 3-1 Heartbreaker

CARSON -- The Cal State Dominguez Hills volleyball team rallied after a game one loss to grab a hard-fought 25-22 win in game two. The win, however, did not provide enough momentum as CSUDH would fall in its next two games and lose the match 3-1. Samantha Maxwell led on the night with 13 kills.

After falling in set one 25-19, CSUDH rallied in two behind five kills from Maxwell and three from Ashley Davison, who also grabbed a block, to grab a hard win at 25-22.

Though allowing the Gators to tie twice in set two, CSUDH never once gave up the lead before grabbing the win.

CSUDH tallied a total of 19 kills in games three and four while allowing SFSU 30, leading to two eventual losses at 25-13 and 25-19.

A final kill from Ashley Clark, who tallied 11 on the night was CSUDH's last word before falling in the match 3-1.

The Toros played one of their best offensive games of the season with 45 total kills in the four games for a .180 attack percentage. On the other side, the Gators grabbed 59 kills for a .273 percentage with CCAA Player of the Week Beth Perkins taking the lead with 18.

Behind the net, CSUDH showed just as much talent with five total blocks, three coming from Davison. Davison was a true standout on the floor with 6-of-8 attack attempts finding the ground, for a .750 attack percentage. SFSU tallied seven total blocks on the night, led by Robyn Hall with four.

Defensively, libero Hilary Hougardy grabbed 13 digs off the floor to lead CSUDH.

The Toros, now with a 1-12 overall record (1-5 CCAA) will next see action tomorrow as they host the Otters of Cal State Monterey Bay. First serve, which will be broadcasted on the Toro Sports Network, is set for 7:00pm.
