Second Half Surge Pushes Toros Past CS Stanislaus, 4-1

Box Score
CARSON -- Four second-half goals trumped visiting Cal State Stanislaus' first-half tally, and the result was a 4-1 win over the Warriors on a cool night on Toro Field.  Senior Kevin Gallaugher started the deluge with a penalty kick goal in the 68th minute, setting the stage for the offensive comeback to move CSUDH to 5-3-1, 4-2-1 CCAA.

After the Warriors got on the scoreboard first after a Trevor Grimbleby bicycle kick past CSUDH keeper Markus Dickerson in the 18th minute, it was all Toros once the second period began.

Gallaugher equalized with a PK at 68:20 after a Toro was tackled in the box, preceding a string of three goals in a span of eight minutes to put the game away.

Andrew Marinez gave CSUDH the lead for good after collecting a Hiram Rangel feed on the left side, and angling his blast past CSUS keeper Steven Waite, before Greg Piechota slipped behind the Warrior defense and beat Waite 1v1 near post.

Brian Alvarez closed the scoring in the 84th minute taking a Scott Locken through ball, and weaving around Waite for an uncontested gimme.

The Toros turned it on in the second half, out-shooting CSUS 12-5 en route to a 23-14 shot advantage for the game, while the two teams combined for 26 fouls and 3 cautions apiece.

Dickerson finished with 7 saves, compared to Waite's 5 for the game.

CSUDH faces CCAA's north division leader Chico State on Sunday, with first kick set for 2:00 pm.
