Gallaugher's Golden PK Goal Lifts Toros Over Gators, 2-1, in Double OT

Box Score
SAN FRANCISCO -- Reigning NSCAA Player of the Year Kevin Gallaugher got offensive when his team needed it most, and the result was a stirring 2-1 double overtime win against host San Francisco State on a sunny Friday afternoon on Gator Field.

The defending national champions dominated play from the first kick, tallying a 11-3 shot advantage in the first 45 minutes of play. Of SFSU's three attempts, however, its first found paydirt at 2:51 as Dylan Glass headed a ball from Wes Whitt past CSUDH keeper Markus Dickerson for the game's first score.

SFSU's 1-0 lead lasted just 29:40 before Scott Mariano found Greg Piechota in the mouth of the Gator net, where the sophomore equalized past SFSU keeper Mike McNeill just before the half.

The hosts matched CSUDH shot for shot after the break, with neither team finding the back of the net, continuing the scoreless streak through the first extra session.

In the second OT, however, SFSU, which fell to 4-2-1, 1-1-1 CCAA, was just 24 seconds from battling to a 1-1 tie, before a hand ball in the box gave CSUDH its chance to put the game away, allowing Gallaugher to take the honors.

The Toros also out-cornered SFSU by a 13-6 count, while 25 fouls were called between the two squads.  Dickerson finished with 3 saves on the day, with McNeill posting 6 of his own.

CSUDH, now 3-2-1, 2-1-1 CCAA, continues CCAA road play with a 2:00 pm first kick against Cal State Monterey Bay on Sunday.
