Target Grows as Coyotes Blank Defending Champs, 1-0

Box Score
CARSON -- Visiting Cal State San Bernardino withstood early and late flurries by an active Toro offense, and use a floater in the 72nd minute to up-end the defending national champions by a 1-0 tally, dropping CSUDH to 1-2-1, 0-1-1 CCAA.

CSUDH looked to get on the board with an early first-half push, but shot number one ricocheted off the post, and the rebound was smothered by CSUSB keeper Arath De la Rocha to keep the game scoreless heading into the half.

The Yotes, now 5-0, 1-0 CCAA, took advantage at 72:56 as Jose Godinez sent a through ball to Albert Cabrera, who slipped behind the Toro defense 16 yards from the goal.  Cabrera, in one motion, then lofted his shot over a retreating Markus Dickerson for what proved to be the game's lone score.

The Toros looked to equalize with one final push in the last minute, but a 15 second scramble in front of the Coyote net was cleared with nine ticks on the clock, sealing CSUDH's fate.

CSUDH outshot CSUSB 16-12 and enjoyed a 4-2 corner kick advantage, with De la Rocha making 8 saves compared to Dickerson's 6.  John Sherman (pictured) led all players with 4 shot attempts.

The Toros look to get their first win in CCAA Conference play as they host Cal Poly Pomona on Sunday, with first kick set for 12:30 pm. The match will be televised live on the Toro Sports Network at www.GoToros.com/live.
