Toros Pitching Shuts Down Biola University in 3-0 Win

Box Score
Carson, CA -- Throwing five complete innings and scattering only three hits, David Fair picked up his first win of the season in the Cardinal & Gold as he held the Eagles of Biola University scoreless while fanning one of his batters. The rest of the Toros' bullpen was just as effective as CSUDH held Biola to only five hits. With the win, the Toros improve to a 22-16 overall record.

For what appeared to be an uneventful game, the Toros capitalized on the only opportunities they would need in the win, first putting a notch on the board behind a Carlos Leyva single that would send him to third off a throwing error. Andrew Baslow then made his only hit of the game count as he brought Leyva home to give CSUDH the edge at 1-0.

Two more runs in the seventh gave the Toros all the breathing room they would need, again started by Leyva's bat, a deep double. Another double in the inning, a two RBI effort from Jon Alia, made the game 3-0, giving the Toros their second shutout of the season.

Allowing the Eagle bats only five hits, it was CSUDH's pen that secured the win as the combined effort of starter Fair, relief pitcher Danny Torres and Michael Cruz, who picked up the save, would send a total of four Eagle batters packing. Torres was the strikeout leader on the day with three in only two innings of action.

In the offense the Toros belted 11 hits, three from Leyva who went 3-of-4 on the day, while Alia's 2-of-3 effort, which included the two-RBI double, gave CSUDH the win.

With both teams seeing nearly the same at-bats and stranding eight runners apiece it was the Eagles five hits that lent to the loss.

Now with a 22-16 overall record, the Toros will see action tomorrow as they host the Urban Knights of Academy of Art University. With first pitch slated for 11:00am, be sure to check back at www.GoToros.com now updates on the game day weather.
