Toros Take Nightcap to Split Afternoon Twinbill at Dixie State

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2

Game 1  Game 2

St. George
, UT -- Cal State Dominguez Hills benefited from three errors in taking a 7-5 decision over Dixie State in the nightcap of today's twinbill after the hosts posted a 4-1 win in the opener to move the No. 30-ranked Toros to 21-15 on the season.  Jon Alia again wielded the big stick in the win with two hits and three RBI.

CSUDH jumped out to a 1-0 lead in its first at-bat after Alia's fielder's choice brought home the game's first run, only to see Dixie State answer with five in the bottom of the second, the big blows coming on two 2-run bombs and a Toro error.

After Alia cut into CSUDH's deficit with an RBI double in the third, the Toros tied the game in the fifth on another Alia RBI baseknock, a Derreck Duarte fielder's choice and a Kevin Pillar RBI opposite field single, before taking the lead for good with two runs one inning later courtesy of a Paul Michael Klingsberg 2RBI single.

Klingsberg then resumed his relief duties on the mound by tossing the final two innings of perfect relief, fanning four of his six batters faced for his third save of the season, after Michael Cruz picked up the win, scattering six hits, and fanning four as well.

The opener was all Dixie State as the hosts held the Toros hitless until the fifth inning, allowing four hits on the day.  Trailing 3-0 after one inning of play, Dixie State added a single run in the fourth before CSUDH scraped its lone run of the ball game across in the top of the seventh on an Andrew Baslow leadoff home run to dead center field.

Kody Kurowski took the hard-luck loss, yielding eight hits and just two earned runs on the day.

The two teams conclude their four-game set tomorrow morning, with first pitch set for 11:00 am PST.
