CSUDH Sends Seniors Out With Split on Senior Day Against UC San Diego

The Toro seniors in Liz Vazquez, Christine Bathauer and Regina Farfan before the twinbill

Carson, CA -- Inspired by a pre-game pep talk by Los Angeles Dodger Hall of Fame manager Tommy Lasorda and the emotion in sending its three seniors out in style on "Senior Day," Cal State Dominguez Hills took a 6-3 win to open this afternoon's doubleheader against UC San Diego, only to see the Tritons regroup in a 10-2 nightcap win.

Game one was scoreless until the third when the Toros put four on the board on an Emiley McEwen RBI single, an Amber Angel RBI double, a wild pitch and and a hit batter with the bases loaded to chase Triton starter Lauren Chastain.

UCSD replied with two in the fourth inning, only to be answered right back with two after another Angel RBI and one more from Liz Vazquez.

The Tritons tried to mount a rally with a single run in the sixth, courtesy of a Toro fielding error, but it was too little too late in CSUDH's 6-3 win.

Regina Farfan recorded her league-leading 24th victory in the circle as Katie Garcia and Khryssi Steele led the charge with two hits apiece.

As was the case yesterday, however, game two belonged to the visitors after staking themselves to a 3-0 lead in the top of the first, the big blow coming on a 2RBI single with the bases loaded by Allison May.

The Toros earned single runs in the first and third on RBI doubles by Angel and McEwen, only to have the Tritons answer with four in the fifth on a key Nicole Saari 2RBI baseknock and a Kristyn Lesovsky 3-run blast in the seventh, her second of the series.

Freshman Camille Gaito notched her second win in as many days for UCSD, while Farfan was saddled with the loss, earning a 2-2 record over the weekend.

Before game one's first pitch, seniors Farfan, Vazquez and Christine Bathauer were honored in a "Senior Day" ceremony, which followed the motivational speech by Lasorda.

The Toros, now at 33-17, 15-9 CCAA, conclude their regular season with two road series, beginning Wednesday and Thursday at San Francisco State, followed by twinbills at CS Stanislaus on Friday and Saturday, before the CCAA Tournament commences, scheduled for April 30-May 5, in Stockton, California.
