Power-Hitting Can't Save Toros in 8-3 Loss to No. 6 UC San Diego

Box Score
La Jolla, CA -- The Cal State Dominguez Hills baseball team belted out a total of four doubles, two apiece from Paul-Michael Klingsberg and Jon Alia, however the powerful bats were not enough as the Toros would suffer a 8-3 loss in game one of the series to the No. 6 Tritons of UC San Diego.

Both Alia and Klingsberg would belt back-to-back balls into the alleyways which would give CSUDH the edge in the first as Carlos Leyva and Alia would both see home safely and give the Toros a 2-0 lead.

The immediate pressure would cause the Tritons to eventually respond in the third frame, capitalizing on two hits to knot three runs of their own and take a lead they would not relinquish the rest of the game.

Alia used his second timely double of the game to dish out the Toros' last run on the day in the top of the fifth, succumbing them to a 8-3 loss.

Going in with an even .500 record, Phillip Van Doren started in action on the mound, fanning two of his batters and scattering seven hits before picking up the loss. One-of-four starters for CSUDH, Van Doren now sits with a 3-4 record and carries a 4.92 ERA on the season.

As the only two Toros to tally an RBI from the batter's box, both Alia and Klingsberg were the Toros' batting force with each knotting two doubles apiece for their only hits of the game. The Tritons relied on the batting of Tim Mort who went 3-of-4 on the day while seeing three of UCSD's runners home safely.

Overall the Toros were unable to get their bats hot as their six hits were not enough when put against UCSD's 10.

Now standing with a 25-17 overall record (14-11 CCAA), the Toros will continue action with UCSD tomorrow with a single game set for 3:00pm in La Jolla.
