Alia Sends Two Over the Fence to Lift Toros to 7-0 Lead Over Academy of Art

Box Score
Carson, CA -- Belting numbers thirteen and fourteen on the season, Jon Alia went 2-of-4 on the day and tallied 4 RBIs to lift the Cal State Dominguez Hills baseball team to an easy 7-0 lead over the Urban Knights of Academy of Art University. On his way to his third win of the season is Philip Van Doren, who fanned a total of eight batters, three shy of the Toros' single game record, while scattering only two hits.

At only an hour and 34 minutes, the game got underway quickly with both teams sending three batters to the plate in the first three frames and seeing all three come back with outs

The Toros decided to get their bats hot in the bottom of the fourth as a Carlos Leyva single started a rally that saw the complete order come to bat. With Leyva putting one on the board first for the Toros, Alia dug his heels in with a runner on first and belted his first bomb of the day, a 2-RBI shot over dead center.

CSUDH got its second major hit in the same frame as a Derrek Duarte double sent another runner safely home, staking the Toros to a 5-0 lead.

Alia liked an 0-1 offering in the fifth and launched his second 2-RBI effort over the fence to give the Toros the lead at 7-0.

With his home run count now at 14 on the season, Alia led the offense thus far with four RBIs, going 2-of-4. Both John Skala and Duarte would each blast a RBI-double in the game to go a respective 2-of-3 and 1-of-3 on the day.

Silencing eight of the Urban Knights at the plate, Van Doren was dominant from the mound as he held UAA scoreless while scattering just two hits.

Overall, the Toros tallied a total of 10 hits in the game while AAU picked up three. With both teams committing no errors in the field it was CSUDH's hitting prowess that lent them the big lead.

With the game halted due to Academy of Art's game with Cal State San Bernardino, the Toros will finish the last two innings of play tomorrow at 11:00am prior to their double-header with AAU.
