Alia's and Klingsberg's 11-for-14 Effort Not Enough as Toros Drop Twinbill at CS San Bernardino

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 Game 1  Game 2

San Bernardino, CA -- Senior Jon Alia and junior Paul-Michael Klingsberg (pictured) combined for 11 hits in 15 at-bats, nine runs scored, five RBI, and a home run apiece, but host Cal State San Bernardino took 8-6 and 7-6 (10) decisions over the Toros this afternoon to take the series three games to one.

The opener saw the Toros take a 2-0 lead on a Coyote error in the first and an Alia RBI single in the third, before the hosts rallied with three in the fourth and four in the sixth, the big blows coming on a 2RBI double by Jordan Lowe and a Johnny Haas 3-run jack to put CSUSB up 7-2 after six.

After CSUDH responded with a pair of runs in the eighth on an Alia blast and CSUSB added a single run in their eighth inning at-bat, the Toros nearly came all the way back after Klingsberg belted his own 2-run blast to cut the lead to 8-6, but after an Alia double, CSUSB reliever Ian O'Conner finally retired the Toros with two runners left on base in the Yote win.

In the nightcap, the Toros got on the board with three in the first after two CSUSB errors on the first two CSUDH batters set the stage for Klingsberg, who doubled in both runners for two of the first three runs of the frame.

With the Toros up 4-1 heading into the bottom of the fifth, CSUSB answered with three to knot the game, as Cody Madison doubled in the final two runners of the inning.

CSUDH looked to take control of the game after putting two on the board in the seventh, courtesy of a Sean Beckley 2RBI double, but CSUSB again matched the Toro output with two in their 7th-inning at bat, before winning it in the 10th on a Haas RBI single.

Klingsberg went 7-for-9 on the day with a homer, three doubles and seven runs scored, with Alia contributing a 4-for-5 effort with a home run, 2 runs scored and 3 RBI.

The Toros, now 11-9, 7-5 CCAA, continue CCAA action with single games next week against Cal Poly Pomona.
