Toros in Sync After 9-3 Win Over CS San Bernardino

Box Score
Carson, CA -- After suffering a loss in the opening game of the series to Cal State San Bernardino, the Toros baseball team got their bats hot in game two to grab a 9-3 win. Now with an 11-8 (7-3 CCAA) record, the Toros were led on the day by Carlos Leyva and Jon Alia, who combined to go 7-for-10 with 4 runs and 2RBI, as well as by Matt Hopps, who tossed 7.0 innings and 101 pitches in picking up the win (2-1).

With two runners on in the first and Andrew Baslow in scoring position, an Alia single would draw a force out at second but bring home Baslow in the process to give one first to the Toros.

A Chris Olsen home run in the second with a Coyote on base would give CSUSB two runs, the first two of the only three that they would tally in the loss.

After adding one in the third and another two in the fourth inning, CSUDH had it's biggest three outs of the game in the sixth, scoring three runs. With Carlos Leyva reaching on his own single, another Alia drive would bring Leyva home to give the Toros a 5-2 lead. Both Candelario Flores and Dean Benavidez would draw singles to bring home two more runs for the Toros and improve their lead to a healthy one at 7-2.

Though set in the win, three Coyote errors in the ninth brough home two more runs for the Toros knotting the game at 9-3.

Going 3-5 on the day and bringing home two runners while scoring three of his own, Alia was dominant from behind the plate. Leyva brought the additional support the Toros would need to outhit the Coyotes going 4-5 and scoring one run of his own.

Now with a 11-8 overall record (7-3 CCAA), the Toros are back on track as the 30th ranked team in the nation and will close out action tomorrow against CSUSB with a twinbill set to begin at 11:00am.
