Toros Suffer 10-3 Loss to Chico State's Four Home Runs

Box Score
Carson, CA -- The Cal State Dominguez Hills baseball team suffered a 10-3 loss in the series opener against Chico State as the visiting Wildcats belted four home runs on their way to a win. Though taking the loss, Bret Montgomery fanned five of his batters in his five innings of work despite falling to 4-2 on the year.

After shutting down the Wildcats in the first two frames, Sean Beckley put one on the board for the Toros as his deep double into left field sent home Paul-Michael Klingsberg, who reached base on a walk.

The Wildcats answered with a RBI double of their own by Josh Meagher, bringing home Deven Braden to even the score at 1-1. With only one out, Eric Stephens connected for a 340-foot home run to place three more on the board for Chico for a 4-1 lead, giving them the lead for good.

CSUDH took advantage of a single and a walk in the bottom of the third to put 'bull-horns on every bag', but with two outs, a strikeout quelled the Toro rally

After the visitors added three more runs for a 7-1 lead, the Toros cut one off their deficit after a Candelario Flores double brought home Carlos Leyva, who singled to lead off the frame, only to have Chico State answer with two solo shots in the eighth for a 9-2 lead.

Going into the final frame of play with an eight run deficit, Leyva and Flores went for back-to-back singles, after which a Kevin Pillar double sent Leyva home for the Toros' final run of the game.

Leading the Toros was Leyva with two hits and two runs, and Flores and Baslow, who both went 3-for-4 with an RBI.

Now with a record of 13-13 (8-9 CCAA) the Toros will host Chico in a twinbill set for tomorrow at 11:00am.
