Toros Fall Victim to Broncos Bats in Game Two 18-11 of Series

Box Score
Carson, CA -- Despite a sixth inning lead of 11-10, the Cal State Dominguez Hills baseball team was unable to secure a win in game two of the Cal Poly Pomona series as they would eventually fall 18-11. Kevin Pillar, now at full offensive capacity, went 3-5 on the day with two doubles and three RBIs to lead the Toros in the offense.

Both the Toros and the Broncos got the game exciting from the get-go with each team registering four runs in the first. CSUDH first saw home courtesy of Carlos Leyva who was driven in by a deep Pillar single to right field. A following Sean Beckley double would bring home three Toros in Paul-Michael Klingsberg, Jon Alia and Pillar to bring the score to a tied 4-4.

The Toros had their final say in the sixth inning, capitalizing on three3 hits and two walks to bring home five runs. Beckley had the most rewarding swing, hitting his over the fence on a 1-1 count to bring home Alia and Klingsberg and give CSUDH a slight lead at 11-10.

Pomona responded in the top of the seventh with six hits to give them seven runs. Nick Tanos and Jenzen Torres hit back-to-back home runs to give CPP all the hits they would need to grab the eventual win of 18-11.

Leading the Toros on the day was Pillar who went 3-5 with two doubles and three RBIs. With two monster hits, one double and one home run, Beckley gave CSUDH a minor shot in the arm with his six RBIs, two short of a CSUDH single-game record.

Taking the loss was Danny Torres, his first of the inning. He pitched 3.2 innings and fanned three of his batters in the effort.

Now with an 12-10 record (8-6 overall), the Toros will travel to Pomona tomorrow to close out the series in a twinbill schedule at 11:00am.
