Toros Can't Run Past Broncos in 7-4 Road Loss

Box Score Pomona, CA -- In a game called after 7 innings due to rain, the Toros saw their record even out at 2-2 in a 7-4 road loss to Cal Poly Pomona. Pitching in his first game of the season, David Fair took the loss and now stands with a 0-1 record.

CSUDH scored twice in the first. Jon Skala's sacrifice fly scored Carlos Leyva, who led off the game with a double. Jon Alia and Paul-Michael Klingsberg each singled and Alia later scored when Sean Beckley reached base on an error.

Down 2-0, CPP answered with Makia's hit, scoring Chris Brehm, Nick Tanosand Dylan Cohen. The Broncos padded the lead with two runs in the third. Freshman Jordan Hinshaw hit a two-run single that scored Tanos and Makia. The Broncos added another run in the fifth when Brehm was walked with the bases loaded scoring Henshaw and CPP led 6-2.

CSUDH cut the lead to 6-3 on a home run from Alia and Trey Ursich's RBI-single that scored Beckley, who reached on on a double. In the seventh, the Broncos scored their final run when Jenzen Torres was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded, scoring Cohen, who singled.

Tanos and Cohen each had two singles and Hinshaw finished with two RBI. Beckley and Alia had two hits apiece for CSUDH.


Bronco RHP Joshua Krist threw six innings and struck out four without issuing a walk for the win. He gave up four runs – three earned – and scattered eight hits. Freshman Geoff Broussard entered in the seventh and struck out two for his first save.

The victory is CPP's second straight to open the season and the Toros dropped to 2-2. The two teams continue their nonconference 4-game series with a doubleheader Saturday in Carson.
