Toros Bats Sizzle in Saturday Split at San Francisco State

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2
Game 1  |  Game 2

San Francisco, CA -- The Cal State Dominguez Hills baseball team scored all the runs it would need in the first three innings with six total to eventually silence the Gators of San Francisco State in a 15-5 victory. In the following game, the Gators barely edged out a 2-1 win to hold the Toros to 3-1 in the series. Carlos Leyva dominated on the day from the plate, going 6-for-8 with two RBI.

Tallying one run in the first and two more in the second, the Toros came in with a powerhouse third inning to knot three more and bring the score to 6-0. With Kevin Pillar walking, a Sean Beckley sacrifice fly would see him safely home for the first run of the inning. Both Dean Benavidez and Ade Olanrewaju would eventually score thanks to a Leyva single-bag bunt to round out the third.

CSUDH would grab four more runs in both the fifth and seventh before finishing off scoring in the eighth with one more.

The Gators made a minor attempt to even the playing field with three of their own in the eighth after two hit batters and three hits would bring in Nick Nyman, Sean Proni and Keith Garcia.

The effort was fruitless as the Toros would grab their fourth straight win at 15-5.

In game two of the twinbill, CSUDH was able to add one in the fourth as an Alia single would bring home Andrew Baslow. This was all the points the Toros would tally in the loss allowing SFSU to walk-ff for the win following a single in the seventh that would bring a runner home.

In the loss, Phillip Van Doren would pitch six total innings and fan four off his batters. In the previous game, Kody Kurowski pic
ked up his third win of the season in six innings on the mound, shutting down five of his batters.

Leading on the day from the plate was Leyva who went 6-of-8 with three RBI and three runs. Alia was another standout with two doubles on 5-of-9 hitting.

Now with a 6-2 CCAA record (10-6 overall), the Toros are off to their best start in the entire history of the program. They will next face action on Tuesday, March 3 in an exhibition game against Keio University of Japan. First pitch is set at 1:00pm.
