CSUDH Salvages Nightcap Win To Split Day With Otters

Carson, CA -- The Cal State Dominguez Hills softball team capitalized on five Cal State Monterey Bay errors to take a 4-3 game two win after the Otters took a low-scoring 2-1 affair in the opening game of this afternoon's double-header.  Junior Katie Garcia went 4-for-8 on the day as CSUDH moved to 8-8, 4-2 CCAA.

The Otters looked towards a sweep after taking a 3-1 lead into the bottom of the 6th inning in game two, before the floodgates opened for the Toro hitters.  With two outs and Jessica Marlow at first base, a Kaci Carroll single to left set the stage for Katie Jordan, whose single sent Marlow to third base after which an error on the Otter catcher allowed all the runners to move up a bag, cutting the lead to 3-2.

One batter later, Garcia made CSUMB pay for its fifth error of the game by sending a 1-0 pitch to center field to bring home the eventual game winner in the 4-3 win.

Carroll came in for CSUDH starter Regina Farfan and tossed 3.2 innings for the win, with Kristin Tanaka picking up her first save of the year after retiring the Otters in order in the 7th.

The opener, however, was a far different game than the nightcap as the two teams combined for just three runs while playing solid defense.

After CSUMB 's Niki Ames gave them a 1-0 lead with a blast in the bottom of the first, the Toros replied in their 3rd inning at-bat on a Khryssi Steel RBI single, knotting the game at 1-1.

That would be all the offense for CSUDH, however, as the Otters plated the game's final run in the 5th inning on a Lucia Rodriguez lead-off homer, eventually giving CSUMB the 2-1 game one win.

In addition to Garcia's 4-hit afternoon, Jordan chipped in with 3 hits, while Emiley McEwen tallied four walks in the two games, including one intentional.

The two teams hook up for the final two games of the four-game set tomorrow, with first pitch of game one set for 12 noon on Toro Diamond.
