Toros Continue Streak With 48-36 Win at Sonoma State

Rohnert Park, CA -- Though only tallying 15 points in the first half, the Cal State Dominguez Hills women's basketball team rallied in the second with 33 to grab a 48-36 win over host Sonoma State and expand their win-streak to five straight. Now 18-8 (13-6 CCAA), the Toros were led by Neka Mixon with 22 points and 10 rebounds.

With both teams posting stagnant offenses in the first half the Toros were able to grab their second lead of the first off a Mixon trey to keep an edge on the Seawolves as they went into the break up, 15-14.

The second half proved to be the Toros second coming as they were able to hold their lead undefiantly, first breaking the double-digit barrier with 5:41 left as Brittney Blankenship would sink her three to give CSUDH a 37-25 lead.

Both Blankenship and Mixon would close off scoring for the Toros and build them up to a 14-point lead moments before SSU's Jaclyn Bisordi would answer back with a jump to drop the lead to twelve. However with three seconds left the Toros would knot the game at 48-36, grabbing their fifth straight win.

Leading on the night was Mixon with 22 points and 10 boards for her fifth double-double of the season. Ennisha Kyles gave up eight points and nine boards of her own with Blankenship's seven points and five rebounds rounding out the Toros on the night. With five steals Aujanee Baldwin did more than anyone to keep the ball in Toroland during the night.

With CSUDH scoring 15 in the first and SSU 14 of their own it was all about grabbing the glass as the Toros had 27 boards and Sonoma 14. Shooting 32.6% on the night gave the Toros the minor boost it needed as the Seawolves would only go for 30.6%

Now with an 18-8 record (13-6 CCAA), the Toros will face off tomorrow at 5:30pm against Humboldt State in the final game of the CCAA 2008-09 regular season. Already clinching a spot as a first round host in the CCAA tournament, all will be decided in tomorrow's action across the state of California.
