CSUDH Dominant in Wire to Wire Win Over CS Stanislaus, 86-63, to Take Sole Possession of First Place

Box Score
Carson, CA -- Playing like a team sitting atop the California Collegiate Athletic Association with four games left in the regular season, Cal State Dominguez Hills scored the game's first eight points and never looked back in a convincing 86-63 win over visiting Cal State Stanislaus, giving them sole possession of first place in the CCAA after CSUSB's overtime win over HSU.  Rodney Yearby's 16 points led five Toros in double-figure scoring in the balanced romp.

The Toros, seeded second in the NCAA West, jumped on the Warriors early, building a 24-14 lead on a Jonathan Toliver triple 10 minutes into the game, and increasing it to 32-14 three minutes later on a Jerrell Smith flush.

CSUS got it down to 15 at 32-17 on a Benny Koochoie trey at the 7:34 mark, before CSUDH clamped down on defense in out-scoring CSUS 18-8 to double the Warrior output at 50-25 entering the break.

CSUDH kept its collective foot on the neck of the Warriors as its lead hovered around the 20-point mark six minutes into the second period, before an Aaron Tinsley jumper at the 10:04 mark pushed the Toro advantage to 73-44.

The lead stayed at 29 before the Warriors whittled its deficit to 21 at 79-58 with just under seven minutes to go in regulation, before the Toros took the eventual 23-point victory.

Tinsley finished with a season-high 12 points, while Ryan Walton and Robert Willhite chipped in 11 apiece, and Smith 10.

The Toros, now 19-5, 13-4 CCAA, conclude their regular season homestand tomorrow night against Chico State, honoring five seniors before first tip at 7:30 pm in the Torodome.
