Toros Blank Seawolves Again in 7-0 Win

Box score

Carson, CA -- Fresh off its 9-0 rout yesterday, Cal State Dominguez Hills handed visiting Sonoma State another blanking in this morning's 7-0 win over the Seawolves.  Winning the regular season series three games to one, the Toros improve to 5-5, 3-1 CCAA, led this morning by Kristin Tanaka's bases clearing double that broke open the game.

The Toros wasted no time in getting on the board, as an Emiley McEwen triple down the right field line, the first of two on the day, brought in Liz Vazquez, who singled with one out in the bottom of the first inning.

That lead quadrupled three innings later as two walks, an SSU error to load the bases, and the third walk of the game gave the Toros a 2-0 lead, bringing up Tanaka. Facing a 1-2 count, Tanaka drilled a double to the left-center field gap, clearing the bases and giving CSUDH a 5-0 lead.

That was more than enough for starter Regina Farfan, who scattered 5 hits en route to her second complete game shutout in as many days.

SSU had a golden opportunity to get on the board in the third inning after loading the bases with one out, but Farfan fanned clean-up hitter Stephanie Zwetschke on a 2-2 pitch and induced Brittany Martinez to ground out to first base unassisted, ending the Seawolf threat.

McEwen led the Toros with 2 hits on the day, while Tanaka's timely hit provided more than enough run support.

CSUDH resumes competition on Wednesday, February 18, as CS San Bernardino pays Carson a visit for a non-conference twinbill, with first pitch set for 1:00 pm on Toro Diamond.
