Box Score
ARCATA, Calif. -- Humboldt State took a 38-28 edge in rebounds, including a 17-6 advantage on the offensive board en route to a balanced 76-58 win over Cal State Dominguez Hills tonight in Arcata in which five Lumberjacks scored in double-figures, keeping the Toros winless in 2009-10 at 0-4, 0-2 CCAA.

A John Staats triple and foul shot by Jamel Ward got the Toros off to a 4-0 start, but that was as good as it would get after the hosts scored the next 13 points to take control of the game, pushing the advantage to double figures at 24-13 with 6:28 left in the half.  Behind buckets by Tim McGrath and Danny Benson and another trey by Staats at the 3:19 mark, CSUDH whittled its deficit to single digits, but the hosts replied with 7-0 run to close the half, entering the locker room with a 39-23 edge.

It was more of the same after the break as HSU pushed its lead to 19 on three occasions in the first 10 minutes, increasing it to a game-high 21 twice, the last coming at 61-40 with 7:01 left in the game.  Another Staats 3-pointer and an old-fashioned 3-point play by Benson gave the Toros life, but HSU again replied with a mini-run of its own to regain momentum.

One final push gave the Toros life after a Ward triple brought CSUDH to 68-56 with 2:39 remaining, but HSU again closed strong with 8-2 run for the 76-58 final.

Tim McLaurin finished with 16 points on 7-of-12 shooting, while Staats contributed 12 points in the loss.  HSU was led by Keith Davis' 13 points, Brian Morris' 11 points and a trio of 'Jacks with 10 apiece.

The Toros, now 0-4, 0-2 CCAA, close the 2009 calendar year with three non-conference contests, the first coming on Tuesday at The Master's College, with first tip set for 7:30 pm.
