Toros Outrun by Orediggers in 52-46 Loss at Colorado School of Mines

GOLDEN, Colo. -- A second half push proved too late as the Cal State Dominguez Hills women's basketball team fell 52-46 after a costly first half. The lone Toro to finish the night in double-digit scoring, Brandie McCann paced CSUDH with 11 points while grabbing three steals on the night.

Lackluster 25% shooting in the first half, the host Orediggers managed 60% from the floor, sent the Toros into the break facing a 23-14 deficit.

CSUDH rallied in the second to match CSM's 42% shooting and outscore them on a 32-28 margin.

Never taking the lead in either half, the Toros were able to cut the Orediggers lead to as little as two at 25-24 with 16-minutes left in the second, the closest CSUDH would enjoy.

A final late-game push put much-needed pressure on the Orediggers as Whitney Gantt dropped a three with 46-seconds left to bring the game close to 49-45 before the 52-46 loss.

The Orediggers were unable to stop the Toros from beyond the arc, CSUDH went 6-of-17 while CSM went 4-of-10, with Kayla Montalvo landing two three-pointers for the Toros.

Taking the no. 2 spot on Toro scoring on the night, Barbara Houston was a double-threat with eight points and seven boards.

Now with a 1-3 overall record, the Toros will take a break before resuming play with a CCAA conference match-up at Sonoma State on December 3. Tipoff is set at 5:30pm.
