Shooting Key as NAIA No. 10 Azusa Pacific Take Toros in 72-53 Loss

CARSON, Calif. -- Pacing the Cal State Dominguez Hills women's basketball team in scoring, MacKenzie Mathias grabbed 14 points before the Toros fell in a 72-53 loss to the NAIA No. 10 Cougars of Azusa Pacific University.

Once again, the outside shot proved a strength for the Toros with 21 of 53 points coming beyond the arc.

Overall shooting proved to be a weakness as the Toros tallied a combined 32.1% from the floor, allowing the Cougars to 44.8% shooting, led by Briana Hall with 18 points. C.J. Hill came in close behind with 15 points for APU.

Versatile yet again, Aundria Anderson came in second for CSUDh with 10 points, led in rebounds with six and dished out three assists on the night.

Grabbing eight points before night's end, Kayla Montalvo rounded out scoring for CSUDH.

The Toros kept the game back-and-forth for ten minutes in the first before a Hill layup gave APU a one-point lead at 24-23 that would carry them through the half.

A Mathias three ended scoring for the Toros to send them into the break at a close-enough 36-27 deficit.

The Cougars quickly caught on to the Toros' perimeter play in the second dropping their 3pt-shotting from 42.9% in the first to a game-ending 11.1%

Facing a 20-point margin loss, Teriana Loftin drained a lay to bring the Toros to a 19-point deficit before the buzzer decided the game at 72-53.

Now with a 1-1 overall record, CSUDH will continue non-conference play as they travel to Colorado to face off against Regis University in the Colorado School of Mines Thanksgiving Classic.

Tipoff is set on Friday, November 27 at 4:00pm Mountian Time.
