Toros Back on National Landscape With 2-0 Win at No. 7 Sonoma State

Box Score
ROHNERT PARK, Calif. -- Oh, what a change of scenery can do.  After dropping two games at southern California foes last weekend, the defending national champs played their most complete game of the season in a 2-0 win at No. 7 and previously undefeated Sonoma State.  A goal in each period completed the scoring, with Alex Munoz tallying the game-winner in the 13th minute.

Coming off two disappointing losses last weekend, the Toros wasted little time in getting on the board as Munoz dribbled down the left side past SSU's defense and launched a 25 footer that found the right side of the net for the game's first score to give CSUDH a 1-0 lead entering the half over Sonoma State, which suffered its first loss in falling to 10-1-2, 7-1-1 CCAA.

That's where the score remained until the 75th minute when Diego Turoldo collected a Brian Alvarez missed shot, and sent his rebound past SSU's Brook Johnson for an insurance goal.

CSUDH tallied a 15-11 shot advantage, including 7-3 in the second half, despite SSU's 3-1 second half edge in corners, and 9-4 advantage overall.

Toro keeper Markus Dickerson repelled 5 Seawolf advances in the win, all in the first half, while Johnson made 7 saves overall.

The Toros, who improved to 7-5-1, 6-4-1 CCAA, look to continue their new-found momentum on Sunday when they take on Humboldt State.
