Toros Put Scare In San Francisco State in 3-0 Loss

SAN FRANCISCO, Calif. -- With 11 total kills, the third time this season she has tallied 10+ in a match, Madison Horsley led the Toros on the night, nearly handing her team a second-set victory in which she grabbed five kills. The Cal State Dominguez Hills women's volleyball team suffered a 3-0 loss on the night to the Gators of San Francisco State.

Horsley's 11 total kills and eight digs paced the Toros on the night while Hilary Hougardy's 20 kills led the Toros defensively, marking the first time in five games she had grabbed 20+ digs.

Keeping pace with Horsley, SFSU's Robyn Hall landed an equal 11 kills, adding to her team's total of 46, 20 more than CSUDH's 26.

With 22 assists, Cassidy Mangum completed her sixth straight game with 20+ assists as the Toros' primary setter.

After dropping a quick 25-11 set one, the Toros took the charge in set two, grabbing a six-point lead on two separate occasions.

With a victory seemingly in their grasp at a healthy 24-21 lead, CSUDH dropped match-point to a Halimah Oswald and Iris Tolenada block before attack errors gave the Gators a 27-25 win over the Toros.

Mangum lent the Toros their final kill of the night in a 25-10 set three loss to close out the match at 3-0.

The loss drops the Toros to a 1-24 overall mark (1-17 in the CCAA). CSUDH will next see action as they begin a four-game homestead versus Cal State San Bernardino next Friday, November 6, to close out the 2009 season. First serve is set at 7:00pm.
