Women's Cross Country Sets Bar High at CCAA Championships

MCKINLEYVILLE, Calif. -- In their second 6-kilometer race of the season, the Cal State Dominguez Hills women's cross country team improved all around with a team average of 27:18, a scant 14-seconds behind Erica Biehl's team-high of 27:04 set earlier this season. Gabriela Rubi led the Toros with a time of 24:09, while carding 29th place.

Rubi's time of 24:09 is enough to seat her at 27 on the CSUDH all-time 6k cross country marks in the program's 13-year history.

Taking second on the team and leading the Toros' 6k improvement, Biehl slotted a time of 25:47 and 66th place.

Overall, Chico State grabbed the team championship, placing four or its runners in the top-ten, with an impressive three in the top-five.

For the second straight year, Vivein Wadeck of Cal State L.A. grabbed the individual championship with a time of 21:52.

In the end, every Toro runner finished with a time much better than the team's season-opener 6k race, with some shaving a full two-minutes off their finish.

Dora Baldwin grabbed 88th place (27:43), Nidia Padilla came in at 94 (29:24), Ines Mendoza at 95th (29:29), Janette Morfin at 98th (30:36) and Destiny Tyler rounded out the Toro effort at 100 with a time of (33:52).

With a season of improvement behind them, the Toros will get a final say at the NCAA West Regionals on Saturday, November 7. The 6k race hosted by San Francisco State begins at 9:00am at Golden Gate Park.
