Toros Triple Their Pleasure in 3-0 Blanking of Western Washington

Box Score
CARSON -- Heading into the final week of the regular season, Cal State Dominguez Hills needed to keep its momentum going after four-consecutive wins, and GNAC foe Western Washington supplied just the inspiration as the Toros took their fifth-straight in a convincing 3-0 blanking.

With the win, the defending national champions improve to 11-5-1 overall, while WWU falls to 5-9.

The hosts wasted little time in getting on the board as a hard-charging Scott Mariano was pulled down in the Viking box, resulting in a penalty kick opportunity.

Having converted all five attempts in his career, reigning NSCAA Player of the Year Kevin Gallaugher (pictured) made it a perfect six-for-six after beating WWU keeper Cameron Copps-Tilley for a 1-0 lead at 6:12.

The Toros made it 2-0 after the break as Tyler Petry collected a loose ball after Scott Locken's knuckle-ball from 18 was mishandled by Copps-Tilley, and fired his uncontested shot past the stunned keeper.

CSUDH added an insurance goal in the final minute of play as Ryan Evans collected the first collegiate goal of his career after taking a tap from Greg Piechota and driving his hard-angled shot far post for the game's final score.

Western Washington tallied just 6 shot attempts on the evening, compared to 22 by the Toros, while managing just 1 corner to CSUDH's 7.  Copps-Tilley saved 7 shots on the night while counterpart Markus Dickerson finished with 6, as well as his sixth shutout of the season.

The Toros continue non-conference action on Friday night as 22nd-ranked Seattle Pacific visits Carson after suffering a 2-1 defeat at 10th-ranked Cal State L.A. earlier this evening.  First kick is set for 7:00 pm.
