Toros Survive in 3-2 Win Over UC San Diego

Box Score
CARSON -- Cal State Dominguez Hills looked to take an easy win after taking a three-goal lead with under 10 minutes left in regulation, but visiting UC San Diego made things interesting with two goals in a span of 4 minutes before falling 3-2 to the Toros on a warm Friday afternoon.  Alex Munoz tallied what proved to be the game winner at 78:55.

The Toros started the scoring in the 38th minute as Andrew Marinez took a cross from Munoz in front of the Triton net, and found the back of the net with his header for a 1-0 lead.

CSUDH doubled the tally 10 minutes later as Brian Alvarez collected a loose ball deep in the UCSD zone, and beat Triton keeper Peter Akman far post at 47:28.

The defending national champions looked to put the game out of reach after Munoz took a deflection and beat Akman to the right post, but that goal proved crucial as UCSD's Kyle Parton and David Bakal responded with two goals at the 84:41 and 88:48 minute marks, before the Toros continually cleared to ball until regulation expired.

The Toros dominated the first half with a 7-1 edge in shots, but the Tritons equaled CSUDH's attempts with 5 shots apiece after the break.

Akman finished with 4 saves for UCSD while counterpart Markus Dickerson tallied 3 in the win.

CSUDH, now 9-5-1, 8-4-1 CCAA, hosts Cal State East Bay in a Sunday doubleheader with the men's game at 11:30 am and the women kicking off at 2 o'clock.  Both games, which will honor the Toros seniors prior to first kick, will be televised live on the Toro Sports Network.
