Toros Squelch Gators, 68-45, In Second CCAA Victory

Carson, CA -- With both the Cal State Dominguez Hills Toros and the San Francisco State Gators entering tonight's play 1-3 in the CCAA, it was the Toros far superior field goal shooting, nearly double that of the Gators, that propelled them to a win. Taking point in the attack was Neka Mixon who led all Toros with 17 points on the night.

Grabbing the ball early and never looking back, Barbara Houston, who is quickly becoming a go-to shooter, made 6 points to push CSUDH to a lead of 10-1 roughly seven minutes into the half. Houston's energy secured the Toros a lead that would not be rescinded the entirety of the match.

Thought the Gators attempted to keep a close game, mainly from Jessica Hout-Freeman who scored 10 Gator points, CSUDH was easily able to go into the half nine up, 28-19, as Brittney Blankenship made both of her free throws prior to the break.

The second half was a much more intense level of energy for CSUDH as a Mixon lay-up four minutes in put the Toros lead ahead by double-digits at 36-25.

It was a Teriana Loftin jumper seven minutes later that grew the Toro lead to 20-plus points this time at 46-25, ending the Toros 12-point streak, their biggest of the game.

Dropping below a 20-point lead the rest of the game only twice easily gave the Toros their second CCAA win at 68-45.

With 17 points and 2 assists, Mixon once again led CSUDH to an easy victory and in the offensive end. For the second game in a row, Houston scored in double-figures and provided energy when the Toros needed it. Blankenship led in boards with 9 total while Aujanee Baldwin grabbed 4 steals throughout the night.

Ultimately it was CSUDH's outstanding shooting at 48.2% on the night that lent them an easy win, while the Gators shot 29%.

Now 7-5 (2-3 CCAA), CSUDH will host Cal State Monterey Bay as CCAA play continues and they look the even their conference record. Tip-off is set at 5:30pm.
