Toros Exact CCAA Comeback Win Over Sonoma State, 49-43

Carson, CA -- One night after a heartbreaking loss to Humboldt State and dropping from second to fourth in the CCAA standings, the Cal State Dominguez Hills women's basketball team pulled a 49-43 defeat over visiting Sonoma State to improve their record to 11-6 (6-4 CCAA). Once again, CSUDH's dominant offensive threat Neka Mixon posted 19 points and 6 rebounds to lead the Toros on the night.

A Mixon layup and subsequent jumper started the scoring early for the Toros as they would take an early lead of 4-3 a few minutes in the first half, while the remainder of the period would prove to be a battle holding on to the ball as the Toros committed eight turnovers to the Seawolves 10.

Ultimately CSUDH would leave the half with possession as an Aujanee Baldwin jumper from inside the arc gave them the lead at 25-23.

The Toros brought their A-game in the second to quickly grab a lead of six points following two field goals from Kayla Montalvo and again, Mixon.

With 8:45 left in regulation, a MacKenzie Mathias trey from a Brittney Blankenship feed pushed the Toros to a seven point lead at 37-30, which they would consistently hold the rest of the night.

The Toros secured their win following a seven-point streak, their biggest of the game, with a few minutes to go.

Though the Seawolves attempted a minor challenge in the final minute of play with two free throws and a final jumper from Marie Sweet, the Toros revived themselves in the CCAA with a 49-43 win.

Leading the night was Mixon with 19 points, 6 boards and a pair of blocks and steals. Blankenship took second from the floor with 11 points and seven boards.

Now at 11-6 overall (6-4 CCAA), the Toros will look to the road next week as they travel to face Cal State San Bernardino on January 30th and Cal Poly Pomona the following night. Both games are set at 5:30 pm.
