CSUDH Wins Fourth-Straight in 64-49 Win at Cal State Stanislaus

Box score

Turlock, CA -- The suddenly streaking Cal State Dominguez Hills women's basketball team picked up its fourth-consecutive CCAA win tonight in Turlock, handing host Cal State Stanislaus a 64-49 defeat.  Neka Mixon and Kayla Montalvo (pictured) each tallied 14 points in the win as CSUDH improved to 10-5, 5-3 CCAA.

The hosts built as large as a 6-point lead in the early going before a Mixon jumper with 6:53 left in the first half knotted the game at 12 apiece.  CSUDH used an Aujanee Baldwin foul shot and Whitney Gantt bucket to take a 3-point lead, stretching out to 11 after Montalvo drained a triple at the 4:42 mark, the same margin the Toros enjoyed entering the locker room.

After the break, another Montalvo trey pushed the lead to 14, with the double-digit cushion remaining until two Gwendolyn Page foul shots with 7:18 left in regulation brought CSUS' deficit to single digits at 47-39.

Consecutive Barbara Houston buckets, however, put an end to all hopes of a Warrior comeback as CSUDH stretch its lead to 12 at the 6:11 mark, coasting to the eventual 15-point decision after Mixon scored the final four points for the Toros.

CSUDH took control of the game on the defensive end, causing 24 Warrior turnovers which were bolstered by 12 CSUDH steals, including four by Mixon.  Houston ended the contest just one rebound shy of a double-double, finishing with 12 points and 9 boards.

The Toros return home next weekend to battle Humboldt State and Sonoma State to conclude the first round of CCAA Conference play, with tip off for both Friday and Saturday's contests set for 5:30 pm in the Torodome.
