Knights of Lynn University Fight to Win Over Toros

Madison Horsley (L) and Cassidy Mangum set up the ball against Lynn University

La Jolla, CA --- The Triton Invitational (UC San Diego) closed out today as the Cal State Dominguez Hills volleyball team fell in its final match to the Fighting Knights of Lynn University (FLorida).  As with the previous games of the weekend they were led in the offense and defense by Ashley Clark and Madison Horsley, who both tallied 8 kills and 11 digs.

A first point kill in set one by Ashley Davison proved to be one of just a few bright spots as the Toros fell quickly to a final score of 25-7.  Not wanting to go without a fight CSUDH came out strong in set two, earning a lead of 5-1 behind the efforts of Kayla Huckabee and Horsley. Attack errors for the Toros, however, quickly reversed the short-lived lead to bring the final score to 25-19, giving LU a 2-0 lead.

Again in set three the Toros looked to extend the match by grabbing a short lead. A block assist by Rebekah Wolfgramm and Heather Rushton brought the score to 17-17, but well-placed balls from LU's hands, most notably Camila Lins who had 10 kills, gave the Knights the final push they would need to take the set at 25-21, and the match 3-0.

The Toros were led by Clark and Horsley, both with 8 kills and 11 digs. Clark now leads the team with 58 kills, followed closely by Horsley with 48. Wolfgramm, establishing herself as a force at quarterback, gained 17 more set assists and now has 136 thus far this season.

With California Collegiate Athletic Association play beginning next week the Toros (1-7) will hit the road to face local rivals Cal State L.A. and UC San Diego on September 10 and 13, respectively.
