Holland Doubles His Pleasure as No. 8 CSUDH Takes 3-0 Win at St. Martin's

Senior midfielder scores two breakaways as Toros sweep complete great northwest sweep

Senior Kyle Holland's two goals spurred CSUDH's 3-0 win at St. Martin's
Box Score
Lacey, WA -- Senior midfielder Kyle Holland made sure the final Washington road trip of his CSUDH soccer career was a memorable one as the Anchorage, Alaska native tallied two goals in the 8th-ranked Toros' 3-0 shutout over host St. Martin's.

The Toros got on the board at the 18:00 minute mark after SMU's Tucker Maxwell was sent off the field for pulling down a streaking Mike Piechota deep in the Saints zone, allowing Kevin Gallaugher a penalty kick opportunity, on which the two-time All-American converted for a 1-0 lead.

Holland followed up Gallaugher's score by taking a Marco Pulido breakaway pass and slotting it past Saint keeper Zac Lubin for a 2-nil lead.  The senior midfielder then capped the scoring at 83:58 on another breakaway, this time from Mario Guerrero, to put the game out of reach, giving the Toros their third win in a 5-day northwest span.

CSUDH keepers Justin Commins, who got today's starting nod, and Miguel Benitez combined for the shutout without having to make a save as the Toro defense kept SMU's offense in check, and out-shot the Saints by a 13-4 margin, including 7-1 after the break.

The 8th-ranked Toros, now 4-0 on the season, return home to host NAIA power Concordia (CA) on Tuesday, September 9, with first kick scheduled for 4:30 pm in Toro Stadium.
