Offense Shows Up in No. 9 Toros' 3-1 Win Over Cal Poly Pomona

Box Score
Carson, CA -- Junior forward Mario Guerrero's score at 38:35 proved to be the game-winner as three Toros tallied goals in 9th-ranked CSUDH's 3-1 win over Cal Poly Pomona on a warm Sunday afternoon in Carson.  With the win, the Toros improve to 9-1-1, 4-1-1 CCAA, while the Broncos fall to 3-6, 1-5 CCAA.

After three games without getting on the board, senior Kyle Holland got the Toros started quickly as he took a Jordan Rover feed and buried his shot into an empty net after CPP keeper Ryan Thomas came out of his box to cover Rover.

Guerrero then gave the Toros a 2-0 lead 24 minutes later after collecting a loose ball in the Bronco box, tapping in the sitter.

Senior Alberto Garcia capped the Toro scoring at the 77:38 mark, before Nigel Orozco gave CPP its only score on a penalty kick at 81:31.

CSUDH tallied a 16-10 shot advantage, including a decisive 6-1 edge after intermission, while out-cornering the visitors by a 6-4 count.

Toro keeper Miguel Benitez tallied 3 saves in the win with the CPP combination of Ryan and Ben Sussman saved 6 shots on the afternoon.

The 9th-ranked Toros continue CCAA action at home as Humboldt State and rival Sonoma State visit Toro Stadium at the Home Depot Center's Track and Field Facility on Friday, October 3, and Sunday, October 5.
